21st Century healthcare is about making the right connections, at the right time, to provide the best quality of care. The goal is to seamlessly link nursing home residents, physicians and advanced registered nurse practitioners to remote medical specialists through collaborative virtual care, including video conferencing.

The article focuses on the landmark “Future of Nursing” report by the Institute of Medicine, and Florida’s progress on implementing the report authors’ recommendations. It reminded me of how much we have achieved, and also how much more there is to do.
